A Mississauga high school has banned the kilt, in a bid to prevent students from showing off too much skin.
Philip Pocock Secondary School decided to ban the popular garment in the spring after too many girls would hike up their skirt too high and teachers were using a “disproportionate amount of time” trying to discipline them,” said Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board spokesperson Bruce Campbell.
“It became enough of an issue ... it’s not reflective of the moral standpoint of the school board,” he said.
Kilts have become rare in the Catholic school board, with only six out of 25 schools including them as part of the uniform.
“I think most parents are extremely happy with the decision,” Mr. Campbell said.
