Barrie teen, missing after meeting woman online, found in Orillia
A missing 16-year-old from Barrie -- who apparently took off with a 42-year-old Texas woman who came to visit him after the two met online playing World of Warcraft -- has been found.
Andrew Kane left his home Wednesday morning and had not been seen until he was found at a Galaxy Theatre in Orillia. The woman, Lauri Price, was located along with him.
Ontario Provincial Police took Kane to Barrie Police headquarters, where he was reunited with his mother Marlene.
Price was also taken back to Barrie. It's unknown what will happen to her next.
Word of Kane's discovery came hours after a Marlene Kane made a plea to Price for her son's return.
"I'm worried about my child," she said. "He's still a child. Please, just have some compassion in your heart and put our fears to rest. Bring him home."
Andrew Kane met Price through the online role-playing game more than one year ago.
Police say Price travelled from Texas to Toronto, where she rented a car, then made her way to Barrie.
On Tuesday, Andrew's parents learned Price was in town -- and found their son gone the next morning.
"I'm not angry," said Marlene Kane, Andrew's mother, when asked if she had a message for her son. "And I speak for your dad. He's not angry. We're just very worried."
Barrie Police were concerned, too.
"This is not a normal event," said Sgt. Robert Allan. "This is someone from out of the country, and we don't know who this person is."
Before he left home, Andrew left a note, assuring his parents Price wouldn't hurt him.
"I know you disagree and are probably angry," it reads. "I don't know how to explain it to you, but [perhaps] this will show you not only the commitment we have to each other, but also that your fears of her are ill found. Like I said, she offered to meet with you. I got in the way of that. What person who would do me harm would be willing to meet with you[?]"
