The first blooms of spring might not be that far away, and while we're waiting, one community art project aims to brighten our landscape.

It's called Plant it Forward. For the last couple of months organizers have encouraged Winnipeggers to make flowers out of recycled and reclaimed materials.

“We decided that let's make Winnipeg beautiful, let's celebrate the first day of spring, let's bring community together to make that happen,” says Getty Stewart.

Nearly 1000 creations have been collected from 20 different community groups, ranging from seniors to cub scouts.

Originally, the flowers were meant to be planted in the snow. But, with recent weather, a fencing company has donated portable panels to display the blooms.

The faux flowers will be put on display at the forks Saturday March 20, on the first day of spring, for everyone to enjoy.

Plant it Forward is also collecting funds for Habitat for Humanity.
