Past and future Olympians will be competing this weekend at Vernon’s Sovereign Lake.

The Haywood NorAm and Teck Sprint Series is the first cross-country ski race of the season.

The Vernon events have attracted the best senior and junior Nordic competitors from Canada with guests visiting from the US, as the athletes prepare for international competitions in Europe.

“It’s customary that we get a large snowfall right before the race,” said Scott Lemon, manager of Sovereign Lake. “We are fortunate to have a groomer working for us who worked at the Olympics, so is highly skilled and ready to prepare the trails for race conditions.”

Races take place at Sovereign Lake Dec. 11th & 12th with qualification rounds beginning at 9 a.m.

While the Haywood NorAm Tech Sprint Races take place, trails will be open for general skiing.
