10 per cent of tattooed Canadians regret the ink

TORONTO – It seems a significant portion of people who get tattoos come to regret the permanent ink on their body.

An Ipsos-Reid poll, commissioned by Global News, has found that 22 per cent of Canadians have a tattoo, and while most of Canada’s tattooed population are generally happy about the ink, 10 per cent of those with tattoos regret the decision.

The regret is higher among younger tattooed Canadians, with 15 per cent of those 18 to 34 regretting their tattoo.

The Ipsos-Reid poll, which surveyed just over a 1000 adult Canadians found that women are more likely to be tattooed than their male counterparts.
The poll found that 24 per cent of women are tattooed compared to just 20 per cent of men.

The survey also found regional differences in the amount of tattooed people. People living in British Columbia are more likely to have a tattoo than any other province in Canada, with 28 per cent of people being tattooed. Quebec comes in a close second with a quarter of the population being tattooed. Ontario is the province with the least amount of tattooed citizens, at just 19 per cent.
