Mark McAllister’s passion for news has kept him front and centre for many of Global’s top stories both on television and via the web. From the frontlines of the Toronto G20 protests and the controversy surrounding police action to the disturbing stories involving former Colonel Russell Williams during his appearance and sentencing in a Belleville courtroom.

Since joining the Global Toronto News team six years ago, Mark has provided RTNDA award-winning investigative work through daily stories and a number of captivating features.  He’s gone to the far north to interview scientists researching polar bears on Hudson Bay and walked the streets of New York with the Guardian Angels during late night hours. His trip to New Orleans to check in on the victims of Hurricane Katrina delivered a compelling and gripping Canadian account on the storm’s anniversary. Mark helped the station earn honours for it’s coverage of the “Toronto 18” arrests and terror threat stories.  He also manned Global's City Hall bureau during a portion of David Miller’s tenure as Mayor as well.

Mark has delivered quality content for Global National with Dawna Friesen including an in-depth look at one man’s attempt to seek asylum in Canada after exposing Africa’s blood diamond trade.  His work as a correspondent for 16x9: The Bigger Picture has also detailed Canadians awaiting execution Iran’s notorious Evin prison.

Not only does Mark continually provide essential information through conventional means, but he was also one of the first journalists to embrace social media as an outlet. He has been actively involved in reporting and interacting with viewers through Twitter for some time.

Prior to his time at Global, Mark was a reporter and host at Toronto 1 and from 1999 to 2004, he was deeply entrenched in the world of sports, as a reporter for Rogers Sportsnet. Mark covered every major professional sports event and concluded his time there working the sidelines as the Toronto Raptors beat reporter.

Mark spent his formative years in journalism as the host of YTV News. The Emmy nominated youth news magazine was co-produced by CTV and gave him the opportunity to learn from some of the best in the business.

While never fully disconnected from the world of news, Mark has also spent a great deal of time working with the Heart & Stroke Foundation. He’s been the company’s Ride for Heart captain for a number of years and acted as MC for the annual event as well. Mark loves to travel the world with his wife, Nora, and looks forward to exploring more new destinations with his young family in the near future.
