Markham teen completes charity swim across Lake Ontario

TORONTO - A 17-year-old Markham swimmer has completed a swim across Lake Ontario.

Rebekah Boscariol left Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ont. at around 8:45 p.m. on Friday night and arrived at Marilyn Bell Park in Toronto this afternoon.

She embarked on the 52-kilometre swim to raise money for the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto.

The hospital was responsible for repairing a hole in the heart of Boscariol's four-year-old sister Sophia.

As of Friday night she was about halfway to her goal of raising $20,000.

The swim was first completed by Marilyn Bell in 1954.
