  • Liza Fromer - Host

    After a five-year hiatus, Liza Fromer returns to morning television as host of Global’s ground breaking morning program The Morning Show. Witty, charming, and energetic, Fromer’s vast television experience paired with her honest, straightforward approach makes her the perfect fit for The Morning Show’s unprecedented approach.

    Born in Kitchener, Ontario, Fromer moved to Toronto, where she graduated with a degree in Radio and Television Arts from Ryerson University. While in school, Fromer gained early broadcast experience volunteering in Q107’s newsroom. Fromer began her career in television as co-host of YTV’s Video & Arcade Top Ten and Clips before hosting Good Morning Toronto on The Weather Network from 1995 to 1997. After a stint in Calgary, where she anchored A-Channel’s first-ever newscast, and Los Angeles where she worked for CBS, Fromer returned to Toronto in 2001 to co-host CityTV’s Breakfast Television morning show. In 2006, Fromer hosted her own series, The List, for Shaw Media’s SLICE network and was a regular contributor to Newstalk 1010’s Moore in the Morning program. Fromer has also co-authored a series of children's books, the first of which is due out in September, 2011.

    An avid supporter of charitable causes, Fromer recently travelled to Tanzania, East Africa alongside Mike Holmes in support of the international charity SOS Children’s Villages. Dedicated to helping orphaned and abandoned children, Fromer described her experiences working with the charity as life-changing.

    Fromer lives in Toronto with her husband and two children.

  • Dave Gerry - Co-Host

    Born and raised in London, Ontario, Gerry graduated from the University of Western Ontario with a degree in journalism. He soon landed a position working the general assignment beat for London’s CBC affiliate, and later CTV’s affiliate in Kitchener. In 1985 Gerry and his family packed up and moved to Vancouver after Gerry accepted a position at CKVU-TV (now CityTV Vancouver).

    At CKVU-TV, Gerry produced news and feature pieces, as well as several comedy specials and documentaries for the station, taking him from New Zealand to Newfoundland with countless memorable stops in between. In 1990 he wrote and hosted his own 13-episode comedy series called Out of My Mind, which saw him holding court inside a set that resembled a human head. No stranger to the morning-show beat, Gerry co-hosted the station’s Breakfast Television broadcast from 2005 to 2008.

    Throughout his career, Gerry has netted more than a dozen provincial, national and international awards for excellence in broadcasting, and as interviewed many high-profile individuals and celebrities, including Jay Leno and Milton Berle. In his spare time, Gerry enjoys sculpting, gardening and, of course, writing. Gerry’s personal musings can be found on his blog, Manic Tapas.

     
  • Kris Reyes - News

    Reyes began her career as a freelance producer and writer at CTV News in Toronto, where she produced a 9-11 broadcast special for the network. Eager to make the jump to on-air, Reyes moved to Winnipeg on the coldest day of 2003 to begin reporting and producing for CTV’s Winnipeg affiliate. After a brief stint working at Global Winnipeg as their weekend anchor, Reyes returned to Toronto where she spent six years as a reporter for CityTV.During this time, Reyes appeared on several CityTV programs, including Breakfast Television, CityNews at 6 and also hosted her own talk-back and social media-focused program, CityOnline. An early adopter of social media platforms, including YouTube, Facebook and Twitter, Reyes was quick to fully integrate these tools into her reporting years before it became popular for journalists to do so.Reyes left CityTV in September, 2010 and took a career break from broadcasting to spend five months travelling around Asia, Australia, New Zealand and Hawaii with her husband.Reyes was born in the Philippines and moved to Toronto with her family when she was nine. Reyes enjoys good books, good conversation and a good cup of tea. She has also worked with several Filipino charities to help alleviate poverty in the Philippines. 
  • Daru Dhillon - Weather/Traffic

    Born and raised in Victoria, BC, Dhillon studied history at the University of Victoria before moving south of the border to attend San Francisco State University’s prestigious Broadcast Journalism program. After graduating, Dhillon quickly landed a position as a reporter with CHEK News in Victoria, where she also produced and hosted in her own design series. In 2004, Dhillon moved to Toronto to become one of the first hosts of Inside Jam, Sun TV’s then flagship program.After a brief stint with Rogers’ local Daytime program, Daru was recruited as the Morning Show Host of Rogers Sportsnet’s flagship daily news program Connected AM in 2006. Dhillon was also tapped to host the network’s popular national ‘Inbox’ social media segment. The first national segment of its kind in Canada, ‘Inbox’ became one of Sportsnet’s most recognizable and marketable brands. After leaving Rogers, Dhillon returned to CHEK in Victoria to host The Homes & Living Show. Dhillon was also Segment Host for Cineplex Entertainment, and penned guest columns for Home & Living Magazine.Dhillon is an avid gardener and enjoys reading, especially 19th Century literature and books on 20th Century history. No stranger to the world of power tools and hard work, Dhillon spent the past year renovating her Toronto-area home by herself. From tearing down, putting up and insulating walls, to installing kitchen counters and retiling bathrooms, Dhillon is the real deal when it comes to a do-it-yourselfer. 
  • Liem Vu - News/Social Media

    Born and raised in Toronto, Ont., Liem Vu brings his own take on local news, and trending topics to Global’s The Morning Show. While studying criminology at the University of Toronto, he reported on student issues for various campus publications while freelancing as a videographer for Eye Weekly. After graduating, he attended Ryerson University where he obtained a master of journalism degree.His passion for storytelling brought him to the front lines of breaking news. Vu has written about crime, local politics, and labour issues for The Toronto Star, The Globe and Mail, and The National Post. He has produced for TVOntario’s Search Engine as well as hosted a series of features for MTV News, focusing on issues like suicide and the radicalization of Somali-Canadian youth.    During the G20 summit in Toronto, Vu was detained by riot police in the Queen St. ‘kettle’ while shooting a video report for The Post. He spent several hours in the rain, filming and sending updates through Twitter, before being released by officers. In his spare time, Vu enjoys reading and attending concerts. However, he is aware that there will be less of the latter now that he has an early wake up call. Prior to his career as a journalist, he moonlighted as the lead singer of a barbershop quartet called ‘The TemptAsians,’ performing at weddings and for the elderly.
