Toronto police have released video footage of the suspect believed to be the killer of Chris Thompson, a Scarborough barber who was shot to death in a shop at the Malvern Town Centre on Tuesday.
Investigators are hoping the surveillance video will help identify the suspect and refresh the memory of witnesses present at the plaza Tuesday afternoon.
"What you did was very much senseless," Charm Marsh, Thompson’s cousin, said at Friday's press conference. "You picked the wrong person that day. It wasn't just some guy. He was our family."
The 40-second edited video shows the suspect calmly walking into the barber shop and fleeing seconds later, after shooting Thompson. Several employees were working at the barber shop and two customers were also present at the time of the incident, including a man that was sitting in Thompson’s chair.
"He obviously didn't know Christopher, because he would never have done that," says Marsh. "We're a peaceful family. We're a God-fearing family. We already have God on our side."
"You might as well come out and surrender and bring closure to this," she adds, referring to Thompson's killer. "My cousin will be resting in peace but you will not be resting in peace."
"I don't know how we're going to get though this but we have (family) to lean on."
The motive in this case is still not known, as police are still searching for one suspect.
"I totally understand that there's an element of fear. I hope that person or persons would come forward because what they have to offer is important," says Det.-Sgt. Dan Neilson.
A trust fund has been set up for Thompson's son and daughter.
There will be a vigil at the site where Thompson was killed for friends, families and community members to gather and show support for the Thompson family.
Final funeral arrangements are set for February 4th.
