David Miller offers Vaughan tornado help

Toronto Mayor David Miller offered his assistance to the City of Vaughan this morning after severe storms, including funnel clouds, ripped through southern Ontario Thursday night.

“I have spoken to Mayor Jackson and have offered Toronto’s assistance to Vaughan should it be required,” Mr. Miller said in a statement released this morning.

Both the Mayor and Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty expressed their condolences for victims of the storm, which killed an

11-year-old boy at a campground in West Grey, about 180 kilometres northwest of Toronto.

“On behalf of all Ontarians, I want to express my deep sadness to the victims of this tragedy,” Mr. McGuinty said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of the young victim who lost his life. And we hope for the quick recovery for those who were injured.”

In the statement, Mr. McGuinty said Emergency Management Ontario will continue to aid in clean up efforts Friday morning.
