Surging raccoon population could raise risk of dangerous roundworm infection

A raccoon drinks from a bottle held by a woman in Mount Royal park in Montreal, in this Sept. 26, 2010 photo. Canadian doctors have reported two human cases of infection with raccoon roundworms, one in British Columia and the other in Ontario. Researchers who study the problem worry that the explosion in raccoon populations and their close proximity to people - and their garbage - mean cases of the devastating infection could rise.
